===How to Connect?===
There are a few choices on how to connect to the IRC channel. The fastest and easiest way is to use the online Mibbit client. Another option is to use a desktop client such as mIRC.
====Mibbit====
Mibbit is an online IRC client. To use it, just follow [http://wbe02.mibbit.com/?settings=aff33e578f1bf4443e408211780b66e8&server=www.darwinbots.com&channel=%23db this link]. All you have to do is type in the nickname you want and press connect.
====mIRC====
There are thousands of guides on how to install mIRC around the web, I will just assume you have it installed.
* Start mIRC
* Open up the "Select Server..." dialog (File->Select Server), this may already be open after you start mIRC.
* Press Add
* Fill in the boxes: darwinbots.com is your IRC Server, and the port is 6667. Leave group and password blank.
* Press Add, then Ok.
* Now all you have to do is connect. (File->Connect)
====Other IRC Clients====
These should be roughly the same as mIRC. Just make sure you have "darwinbots.com" as your server and 6667 as your port.

* /join #channel - joins a channel, for us they are #db and #dev
* /msg <username> message - Sends a private message to <username>

==Internet Mode Fix==
Limitations of Visual Basic 6 left the standard [[Internet Mode]] with several bugs and it generally does not work very well because of this. To correct the problem, Sammeh put together a fix by way of a helper program.
===Installation and Setup===
*[http://www.darwinbots.com/FTP/DarwinbotsIM.exe Download] the fix into the same directory as your Darwinbots executable (For ease of use, it can actually be anywhere).
*Create two folders somewhere on your hard disk, they can be named anything you want, but for ease call one inbound and one outbound.
*Inside Darwinbots, create a new teleporter (Objects->Teleporters->New Teleporter...)
*Set the type to inbound, and then change the path to the location of the inbound folder you made earlier.
*Create another teleporter, only set the type to outbound, and the path to the outbound folder you made.
*Now run DarwinbotsIM.exe
*Change the inbound and outbound paths to the ones you made.
*Change the nickname to whatever you please (Your name on the forums would be good)
*Check to make sure a Darwinbots process is selected (the drop down box)
*Press Start.
*You now have a sim connected to the Internet, congratulations!

===IRC Commands===
There are also commands in our [[IRC]] channel that leverage the fix.
* !bots - Lists the number of bots in transit
* !online - Shows the active sims connected to IM
* !im - Shows total population of active sims connected to IM along with their individual contributions
* !info <simname> - Shows how many bots are running at what speed on a particular sim
* !siminfo <simname> - Shows detailed information on a particular sim
* !bcps - Shows the total Bot Cycles per Second. Essentially, the bigger this number, the more power IM mode has available.
* !help - Displays all available commands.
* !auth <password> - Authenticates you with the ChannelOPbot. You must provide the correct password. Unauthorized use will result in a g-line.
